ESR3. Suneel Kumar

Short biography

I received my undergraduate degree in Electrical (Telecommunication) Engineering from COMSATS Institute of Information Technology Lahore, Pakistan, on a fully funded scholarship from the ministry of IT Pakistan. I have also done his Masters in Electrical Engineering from the same institute. My research was more focused on optimization of routing and MAC protocol for Adhoc and sensor networks. I have served 8 years as Lecturer in computer science department university of central Punjab, Lahore. Nowadays I am working on my Ph.D. on the 5GSmartFact project as ESR3 on the topic Time Sensitive Network (TSN) over wireless networks in industrial environments.

Short description of project objectives

In the industrial environment there are many cases where timing requirements are very strict, those can be safety systems or closed-loop regulatory systems. Although the present wired system is capable of tackling this challenge, keeping a huge number of sensors and actuators connected through wire can create problems in some scenarios such as flammable, explosive, or very hot environments. So connecting these devices using wireless communication becomes a need. Although there are many solutions already present to tackle this timing problem in wired systems, those can not be applied directly in wireless communication.

The focus of the PhD is on proposing and evaluating extensions to the 5GNR and IEEE 802.11 technologies (Wireless technologies) to support time sensitive services. Right now we are working on the state of the art of 802.11be(Wifi 7) which is the latest standard, supposed to be finalized by 2024. We are analyzing the challenges of 802.11be and we are doing some detailed analysis of literature present in order to finalize one challenge. Right now we are digging out the multilink communication in 802.11be and its proposals.
